level 4 guitar lessons
Level 4 lessons take you to a stage where you can play, and solo to a good standard in most rock, pop and blues songs. It is essential you have mastered the previous lessons or have already reached a good standard. It is also essential, if you have mastered the scales at this level, that you work on you technique. See Techniques Section.
lessons
-
- E-shape barre chords
- These are shown in the chord section as well, but learning to play and understand barre chords is a lesson in itself.
-
- A-shape barre chords
- Again these are in the chord section, but it is important to be able to play these barre chords in both shapes.
-
- major/minor barre practice and groove development
- No Tab or PDF needed for this lesson. You should get it from the video.
-
- 6/8 strum patterns
- Although not as common as 4/4, 6/8 is a fairly common time signature. Following this lesson will seriously improve your rhythm playing. A couple of songs in 6/8 that spring to mind are 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen and 'We Are The Champions' by Queen.
-
- dominant 7 barre chords
- Although these appear in the chord section, they are a lesson in themselves.
-
- minor 7 barre chords
- Again in the chord section, but still a lesson.
-
- major 7 barre chords
- Yes they too are in the chord section, but needed here too.
-
- 7th barre practice and groove development
- No Tab or PDF with this one. Watch the video, it's all that's needed. Be sure to try the ideas in 3/4 and 6/8 as well.
chords
-
- The suggested chords you should know before moving to the next level are all shown in the lessons above.
scales
-
- Essential Scale Shapes 2
- These are the major scale, natural minor scale, major pentatonic scale, minor pentatonic scale and blues scale. These are the same scales from level 3 but are in another position on the fingerboard. This allows you to be more creative with your lead playing. Make sure you can move between the 2 positions with ease and fluency before learning more scale positions. See the video.
arpeggios
-
- 2 Octave Major and Minor Arpeggios
- The purpose of learning these arpeggios is to learn the names of the notes in the chords, not just the shapes. See the video.
-
- 2 octave Major, Minor and Dominant 7 Arpeggios
- These arpeggios are colour coded so you can easily identify the Root, 3rd, 5th, and 7th degrees. This enables you to 'target' certain notes when soloing. See the video.
